The Green Wave will come out fresh for this morning’s practice at the Westfeldt practice facility after a well-deserved day off on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Green Wave held practice in the afternoon after the conclusion of the annual Media Day activities. In what was by far the the hottest and most uncomfortable practice thus far, the Green Wave had another very productive practice session.

With again a strong emphasis on special teams, Bob Toledo’s team worked on beating one-on-one blocks to get to the returner quicker. The kickers also had a impressive day, as redshirt-freshman Ryan Rome, true freshman Cairo Santos and junior transfer Roger Williams combined to hit all nine of their field goal opportunities.

The offense worked on “situation” plays, mostly 3rd down and long plays while the defense worked on stripping the ball from the ball-carrier and recovering any lose football on the turf.

The finish up practice, the entire team took part in an 11-on-11 session. Here are some highlights:

-QB Ryan Griffin continues to get better and better, completing passes into very small windows
-RB Albert Williams also looked very sharp, utilizing his quick feet and great acceleration through the hole
-WRs Casey Robottom, Ryan Grant and Joe Kemp all made nice plays in traffic
-Freshman RB Orleans Darkwa has impressed many through the first week in camp and on Saturday he added a 61-yard TD run
-Freshman LB Dominique Robertson forced another fumble towards the end of practice

We will continue to provide updates throughout today
