Tulane Green Wave Baseball

After a long time off, we will finally be back for the upcoming Green Wave Baseball season. The season begins in 16 days, so we are scrambling to update the site.

The Green Wave have been ranked 25th in the nation by Baseball America for the first time since 2008, as they have 21 letter winners returning from last year.

The site will hopefully be updated by the end of the week, to include a current roster and schedule. We will also add Player Profiles in the coming weeks.

We are in the process of adding writers for the upcoming season, and if anyone is interested please email us at Thanks again and we look forward to the upcoming season!

Back from Hiatus – 8/20 Recap

Head Coach Bob Toledo

I’m finally back in New Orleans and excited to get to tomorrow’s scrimmage, which will conclude fall camp.

Today, Head Coach Bob Toledo rewarded the Green Wave with a “fun” day, as the team as a break from the daily grind of fall camp practice. After a morning practice that was cut short due to rain, the squad moved to the swimming pool and relaxed. After the rain subsided, the team went back out on the practice fields and participated in some “drills”, which entailed both the offensive and defensive lineman fielding punts (which for sure provided some comedy).

Practice concluded with the team enjoying some cold popsicles on a very humid day.

The Green Wave wrap up fall camp tomorrow with a scrimmage at the Westfeldt Practice Facility beginning at 3:20 PM in the afternoon. The scrimmage is open to the public.

The weather didn’t cooperate today and as a result, the Green Wave had a rain-shortened morning practice on Wednesday.  In what was scheduled as the Green Wave’s first two-a-days experience of the summer, the mid-August weather postponed the afternoon session until Thursday.

The Green Wave will practice in the Saints Indoor Facility tomorrow to avoid the looming tropical depression.  So Thursday, as it turns out, will be the first day of a two-a-days.

Wednesday morning’s practice was scheduled to begin at 8:50 AM, but was held off until 9:45 AM because of lighting in the area.

Today’s practice consisted of kickoff return and kickoff coverage drills, a brief scrimmage, third-down-and-distance drills and full-team thud drills.

Some highlights from Today’s activities:

-The defense was extremely impressive today, dominating the play
-DB’s Phillip Davis and Shakiel Smith had near interceptions during the brief scrimmage
-CB’s Ryan Travis and Davis had an interception each during the third down and distance drills
-DT Justin Adams and LB Darryl Farley also played well, applying pressure in the backfield during the third down and distance drills
-QB Kevin Moore had three TD passes during the third down and distance drills, while QB Ryan Griffin had one of his own
-In the full-team thud drills, Griffin connected with WR Devin Figaro for a 44-yard touchdown pass
-CB Alex Wacha played well during the full-team thud drills, both breaking up a pass and forcing and recovering a fumble.
-Cairo Santos hit field goals of 20, 32, 37 and 42 yards as he continues to impress Coach Bob Toledo and the rest of the staff

The Green Wave will be back at it tomorrow in the Saints indoor facility for their first taste of two-a-days, hopefully.

Updated Football Injury Report

Tulane WR D.J. Banks

According to Tammy Nunez, there are some injuries to report:

-D.J. Banks separated his shoulder Monday and was cautious with it Tuesday

-Ryan Grant and Julius Warmsley have hip-flexor injuries.

-Freshman linebacker Steven Funderburk has a tweaked hamstring that will sideline him for 10 days to two weeks, according to Toledo.

D.J. Banks has had a quiet camp thus far after a promising rookie campaign.  Ryan Grant has emerged as a legitimate threat to line-up across from senior WR Casey Robottom.  Hopefully, these minor injuries are just that, minor and don’t continue to nag throughout the year.

Freshman RB Orleans Darkwa

After another hot and productive practice yesterday, the Green Wave have this year’s first taste of two-a-days.

Today’s first practice will commence at 8:50 AM and the second will begin around the 3:00 PM this afternoon at the Westfeldt practice facility on Tulane University campus.

The players seems to excited about the first two-a-days of fall camp, as Ryan Travis tweeted this morning:

First day of two a days…I’ll just look at it as a 2 for one..2 chances 2 get better in 1 day!

A couple highlights from yesterday’s practice:

-The offensive line continues to build up higher expectations, as they have looked extremely impressive so far throughout camp and their conditioning was on full display yesterday.  It looks like QB Ryan Griffin will have time to deliver the football this year, which is a fantastic luxury.

-CB Phillip Davis had another great day on the defensive side of the ball, including a nice hit on WR Joe Kemp that forced a fumble

-Freshman RB Orleans Darkwa continues to have a great camp, as he is making a push for some touches in his rookie year with the Green Wave

We will continue to provide updates throughout the day.
