August 10th Practice Preview

Freshman LB Logan Hamilton

The Green Wave will take the field to partake in their 6th practice of fall camp. Yesterday, in what was a very comfortable day weather-wise for the Green Wave, the offense took it to the defense. Today, the squad will not be as lucky as it will be very hot and humid.

Some highlights from yesterday:

-The offense was on full display, looking sharper than the defense
-The middle drill (a one-on-one blocking session where defense fights offense for supremacy) was very much controlled by the offensive side of the ball
-During the “score” drill, Albert Williams ran into the endzone after alluding defenders and celebrated with a flip, a scene that Parker Waters caught on camera
-Ryan Travis blocked a 38-yard FG attempt off the foot of Ryan Rome
-In the red-zone drills, Kevin Moore and Alan Mitchell teamed up for a nice pitch and catch in the right corner of the endzone. Jamar Thomas also rushed for a 13-yard TD during the drill
-Freshman LB Logan Hamilton continues to impress the Green Wave Coaching Staff

We will provide updates throughout the day.

Alum Roydell Williams Competes for Redskins’ Roster Spot

Former Tulane WR Roydell Williams

Some good news for a former Green Wave Wide Receiver. Roydell Williams looks like he could finally see game action again in the NFL after two years off.

After signing with the Washington Redskins in May of 2009, Williams was waived during last years training camp with a hand injury. He has since worked his way back and looks like he will make the Redskins roster.

Williams is competing for a starting job opposite of WR Santana Moss with Joey Galloway and Devin Thomas.

He could make some noise in the NFL this year after finally being healthy. Williams’ career thus far has been marred by injuries, but the potential is still there. In his 40 game career, Williams has caught 84 passes for a total of 1,139 yards and 6 touchdowns.

In his collegiate career with the Green Wave, Williams shattered the Tulane and Conference USA career receiving touchdown record by finishing his career with 35 touchdowns and ranks second all-time at Tulane and Conference USA in career receiving yards with 3,207.

Good Luck Roydell!

FB 2010 Depth Chart by Class

Thanks to our friend DetWave, GeauxWave.com now has a Depth Chart by Class.  DetWave put together this very organized depth chart by class together to “give a visible representation of the way the depth chart stacks up, where there are deficiencies in experience, and a quick idea on how many scholarships we’d have for the future year.”

Unfortunately I’m having a little trouble incorporating the spreadsheet into WordPress.  So for now I’m posting it as a very low quality image.  Hopefully over the next few days I can figure out how to integrate it into the site.  If you wish to download a copy, DetWave has also made that available here: TULANE FOOTBALL DEPTH BY CLASS. I have made a page for this post under the “Tulane Football” menu. So you can find it at any point in time to the right on the side-bar or above on the pulldown menu.

DetWave will continue to update the Depth Chart as camp continues, so once again a big thanks to him!

In the first full-pad practice of the year, the weather finally cooperated.  In a very favorable weather-day, the Green Wave offense was on full display.

The practice consisted of a pair of the regular drills, including kickoff drills, a positional session, a middle drill, and a “score” drill.  The Green Wave offense also worked on some red-zone plays, from within the 20 yard-line.

Some highlights from today’s session:

-The offense was on display today, looking a little sharper than the defense

The Green Wave are back at it tomorrow morning at 8:50 AM before two-a-days start Wednesday.

Compliments of Tulane Athletics, here are some short video interviews with Tulane Head Coach Bob Toledo, RB Albert Williams and DT Oscar Ponce de Leon after August 9th’s practice:

August 9th Practice (In Progress)

Tulane RB Albert Williams

As Head Coach Bob Toledo announced over the weekend, all morning practices now will begin at 8:50 AM as opposed to 9:20 AM.  Meetings would end very late in the day, sometimes as late as 11 PM and Coach Toledo felt it was best served to bump those meetings up to earlier in the day.  So now, practice will be concluding at about 11:30 AM as opposed to after 12:00 PM, allowing the team to meet before the student-athletes have class around 5:30 PM.

Some news from Tammy Nunez of the Times-Picayune from early in practice via Twitter:

@tammynunez #tulane rb albert williams just got a TD on tunnel drill. Capped it w/a standing frnt flip. Wow.

More to come…
