The weather didn’t cooperate today and as a result, the Green Wave had a rain-shortened morning practice on Wednesday.  In what was scheduled as the Green Wave’s first two-a-days experience of the summer, the mid-August weather postponed the afternoon session until Thursday.

The Green Wave will practice in the Saints Indoor Facility tomorrow to avoid the looming tropical depression.  So Thursday, as it turns out, will be the first day of a two-a-days.

Wednesday morning’s practice was scheduled to begin at 8:50 AM, but was held off until 9:45 AM because of lighting in the area.

Today’s practice consisted of kickoff return and kickoff coverage drills, a brief scrimmage, third-down-and-distance drills and full-team thud drills.

Some highlights from Today’s activities:

-The defense was extremely impressive today, dominating the play
-DB’s Phillip Davis and Shakiel Smith had near interceptions during the brief scrimmage
-CB’s Ryan Travis and Davis had an interception each during the third down and distance drills
-DT Justin Adams and LB Darryl Farley also played well, applying pressure in the backfield during the third down and distance drills
-QB Kevin Moore had three TD passes during the third down and distance drills, while QB Ryan Griffin had one of his own
-In the full-team thud drills, Griffin connected with WR Devin Figaro for a 44-yard touchdown pass
-CB Alex Wacha played well during the full-team thud drills, both breaking up a pass and forcing and recovering a fumble.
-Cairo Santos hit field goals of 20, 32, 37 and 42 yards as he continues to impress Coach Bob Toledo and the rest of the staff

The Green Wave will be back at it tomorrow in the Saints indoor facility for their first taste of two-a-days, hopefully.

Freshman RB Orleans Darkwa

After another hot and productive practice yesterday, the Green Wave have this year’s first taste of two-a-days.

Today’s first practice will commence at 8:50 AM and the second will begin around the 3:00 PM this afternoon at the Westfeldt practice facility on Tulane University campus.

The players seems to excited about the first two-a-days of fall camp, as Ryan Travis tweeted this morning:

First day of two a days…I’ll just look at it as a 2 for one..2 chances 2 get better in 1 day!

A couple highlights from yesterday’s practice:

-The offensive line continues to build up higher expectations, as they have looked extremely impressive so far throughout camp and their conditioning was on full display yesterday.  It looks like QB Ryan Griffin will have time to deliver the football this year, which is a fantastic luxury.

-CB Phillip Davis had another great day on the defensive side of the ball, including a nice hit on WR Joe Kemp that forced a fumble

-Freshman RB Orleans Darkwa continues to have a great camp, as he is making a push for some touches in his rookie year with the Green Wave

We will continue to provide updates throughout the day.

Freshman LB Logan Hamilton

The Green Wave will take the field to partake in their 6th practice of fall camp. Yesterday, in what was a very comfortable day weather-wise for the Green Wave, the offense took it to the defense. Today, the squad will not be as lucky as it will be very hot and humid.

Some highlights from yesterday:

-The offense was on full display, looking sharper than the defense
-The middle drill (a one-on-one blocking session where defense fights offense for supremacy) was very much controlled by the offensive side of the ball
-During the “score” drill, Albert Williams ran into the endzone after alluding defenders and celebrated with a flip, a scene that Parker Waters caught on camera
-Ryan Travis blocked a 38-yard FG attempt off the foot of Ryan Rome
-In the red-zone drills, Kevin Moore and Alan Mitchell teamed up for a nice pitch and catch in the right corner of the endzone. Jamar Thomas also rushed for a 13-yard TD during the drill
-Freshman LB Logan Hamilton continues to impress the Green Wave Coaching Staff

We will provide updates throughout the day.

In the first full-pad practice of the year, the weather finally cooperated.  In a very favorable weather-day, the Green Wave offense was on full display.

The practice consisted of a pair of the regular drills, including kickoff drills, a positional session, a middle drill, and a “score” drill.  The Green Wave offense also worked on some red-zone plays, from within the 20 yard-line.

Some highlights from today’s session:

-The offense was on display today, looking a little sharper than the defense

The Green Wave are back at it tomorrow morning at 8:50 AM before two-a-days start Wednesday.

In what was by far the most uncomfortable day weather-wise so far during camp, the Green Wave managed to have another productive practice.

Today’s practice was the first one with pads, and as a result, the intensity picked up.  It was great to see the shape that everyone was in  – despite the heat and humidity, the Green Wave looked well conditioned. And at times, they were almost too active as Head Coach Bob Toledo alluded to Friday, “Their enthusiasm was pretty good. Sometimes a little too good, but I’d rather have to slow them down then speed them up.”  At one point there was a little “fight” during practice, displaying the intensity the players are playing with.

A couple highlights from today’s practice:

-Sophomore DB Ryan Travis continued to play well in camp, with one interception of Ryan Griffin and one more pick of D.J. Ponder
-Freshman LB Logan Hamilton forced a fumble on senior RB J.T. McDonald, after a big hit
-Sophomore WR Ryan Grant made a nice on-handed sideline catch earlier in practice during a passing drill (see image, big thanks to Parker Waters)

Tomorrow is Media Day for the Green Wave, beginning at 11:45 AM.  Tulane Athletics will be providing a live stream on Media Day on their website as the event is closed to the general public. Media Day will also be available on WIST AM 690.

Practice will be pushed to the afternoon, starting at 3:20 PM.

We will be providing updates throughout Media Day.
